  1. Southerner Proper noun Someone who comes from the south of a region, such as the United Kingdom.
  2. Southerner Proper noun Anyone from one of the states which seceded in 1861 and briefly formed the Confederate States of America, or, more broadly, from some neighboring states as well; cf "the South".
  3. Southerner Proper noun A white from that area, to the exclusion of blacks from that area, and sometimes to the exclusion of white women as well.
